Okay first off, I talked to a fire fighter friend of mine that was actually there. The car was not found abandoned. As Some one saw it happen, and immediately called 911, and the driver was rescued. He was in fact VERY  intoxicated. But not injured. He was sent to the hospital up the road. Also I did go down an check it out this morning and had a good talk with my son about what alcohol can do to you. Heres the video I took of the scene.

Thanks for that. With that visual the event only becomes more impressive. I wish someone had caught that on dashcam.

Also, good on you for using that visual aide to educate your son about alcohol.

There’s a rumor that the gas station on the corner may have gotten it on their security camera but I’ll see it when I believe it.

Utterly amazing that he wasn’t injured.  But get his ass off the road for a good long time.

Daaaaaaaaang.

It makes more sense that the driver was intoxicated and received, rather than abandoned. Anybody that drunk would likely die trying to get back to shore on their own.

The attitude of vehicle in flight after initial ground strike would be interesting to see.

For driver not to impact windscreen and no windows or bodywork to suffer damage, foliage shows zero signs of damage so it had to fly the whole way, that must’ve been something of a perfect landing to pull off blind drunk.

Could be too old, but GM was an early adopter of EDRs, and I know they’ve had them in the Tahoe for a while, so it’s not impossible the police could pull speed and throttle data from the black box.

Drunks are usually pretty loosey goosey for lack of a better term. Results in not as many injuries during a collision.
